2018 MLB playoffs: Rockies and Cubs could win divisions Saturday

We could see champagne burst on Saturday as the image of the MLB in series began to fade. On the penultimate day of the regular season schedule, the Colorado Rockies, in the finals, could win the National League West and the Chicago Cubs could do the same in the Central League.

With a win against the Washington Nationals on Friday – the eighth Consecutive win for Colorado – The Rockies have won at least one playoff spot. They also remain in the driver's seat for their first league title in club history with a one-game lead over the Los Angeles Dodgers in the West of the National League with only two games to play.

The Colorado magic number to win the division is only two, which means they win the NL West on Saturday with a win over Washington and a loss of Dodgers against San Francisco.

The Cubs won their third game in a row by beating the St. Louis Cardinals to retain a lead of one game over the Milwaukee Brewers in the division, two players to play. Chicago can win Saturday's division with another win against St. Louis and a loss to the Brewers, who face the Detroit Tigers.

Friday's loss paralyzed the Cardinals' playoffs, now two games behind the Dodgers for second place in the Wild Card.

The Dodgers can claim a playoff spot on Saturday with a win over San Francisco or a Cardinals loss to the Cubs.

"We want to make their way into the playoffs," said Dodgers third baseman Justin Turner. "We do not want to rely on someone else who loses to bring us in."

But a Wild Card would be a disappointment for the Dodgers, who won NL West's five previous titles and led the Rockies by 2½ games with 10 days left in the regular season.

"The key is to enter the playoffs and play them. We're still in a good position for that, "Dodgers manager Dave Roberts told FBO on Friday. "We play baseball in the playoffs, and that's our goal. To play in desperation mode, it suits me.

Any potential tie breakers would be played Monday, MLB announced. If there is only one game (Brewers-Cubs, Rockies-Dodgers or Dodgers-Cardinals), it will be played at 4:09 pm. HE on Monday. If there are two games of tiebreakers, Brewers-Cubs would start at 1:05 pm, the second match at 4:09 pm.
