NEW YORK – The only thing as bad as the Yankees Monday night at Yankee Stadium was Angel Hernandez 's refereeing to first base.
While the Yankees suffered their most unbalanced playoff loss from their 16-1 loss to the Boston Red Sox in ALDS 'third game, four of Hernandez's calls in the first four rounds were taken over and three were overthrown.

At one point, Hernandez turned to the Yankees' first baseman, Luke Voit, and said, "I'm going to get the next right."
Should anyone be surprised Hernandez missed some calls?
A major member of the league since 1991, Hernandez is considered by many to be one of the worst in his profession.
A call that Hernandez was cheated was not even close.
"But they are human," Voit said. "They're going to make mistakes, I understand, but you're hoping for the best next time."
Here is the account of Hernandez's night:
– At home, the Red Sox were challenged when Hernandez said Giancarlo Stanton was safe on first base after a reduced ground shot. A replay canceled the call.
– In the third third at home, the Yankees were challenged when Gleyber Torres was called for the first time after hitting a ground ball that was put in place by Xander Bogaerts. A replay canceled the call.
– In the fourth quarter at home, the Red Sox challenged Voit to be called a safe to first base on a grounded ball hit up to the second goal's hole. A replay confirmed the call.
– Later in the Yankees' fourth game, the Yankees challenged the fact that Didi Gregorius was called to start on a ground ball on second base. A replay canceled the call.
"It happens, man," Voit added. "You just hope he's making the right call, but since we're in the playoffs, every call will be reviewed because you're trying to win."
Yankees broadcaster John Flaherty was not so nice when he analyzed the game at YES's post-game show.
"I'm thinking back to the resumption of Luke Voit 'base game that Angel Hernandez was right," Flaherty said on the air. "When he came back to Voit, (Hernandez) made a small comment to (SEE) and smiled a little, almost like:" You know, "I have a good one."
"It's not that funny, Angel, it's a playoff game, it's a bargain, and playing back makes him lose the game." The game will eventually unfold, but you have to think about the first goal, maybe be a little more proud of what you do. "
The Yankee and Red Sox have not seen Hernandez's last game.
In Tuesday night's game 4, in which the Red Sox can eliminate the Yankees with a win, Hernandez is supposed to be the marble umpire.
