Is it possible that a coach is on the hot seat while his team heads for the playoffs? The Dallas Cowboys seem to have reached this goal in the 11th week, promising an NFC East race that few people imagined at the beginning of the season.
Last week, ESPN included Cowboys coach Jason Garrett among six NFL coaches whose jobs could be compromised. On Sunday, the Cowboys won for the second week in a row. Starting Thursday, the Cowboys could be in first place.
ESPN's Football Power Index (FPI) gives the Cowboys a 51% chance of winning the division after Sunday's loss to the Washington Redskins and Philadelphia Eagles. The following is a preview of the series' appearance if the season ended Sunday. Let's go.
NFC
For at least a day, the best NFL team is at the top of the conference standings. Including the dismantling of the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday, the Saints outscored their last three opponents 144-56. Although they would fall to second place if the Rams defeated the Chiefs on Monday, it would only be a function of the weeks off. The Saints hold the tiebreaker against the Rams and win the first place overall if both teams win.

Then: Atlanta against the Falcons
The Seahawks' win on Thursday night means the Rams can not win the NFC West with a win against the Chiefs on Monday. But the scenario is only going back a week. If they want to keep the advantage of the NFC championship, they will need the help of the Saints.
Then: Monday night at Kansas City Chiefs
Nobody should doubt, at least not now, if the Bears are simply the beneficiaries of an easy schedule. They introduced him to the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday night, demonstrating the stifling defense that can lead to a team in the playoffs. Their last game of the regular season will take them to Minnesota, but given the difficult schedule of the Vikings, the Bears may have completed the NFC North at that time.
Then: To the detroit lions
Sunday was probably a major turning point in the east of the NFC. The Redskins home defeat against the Texans, combined with the Cowboys' sudden success, made the race much narrower. The good news is that the Redskins still hold the cards and could strengthen their position if they could win their next three games, all against division opponents. The bad news: they will have to do it with quarterback Colt McCoy, who will replace injured Alex Smith until the end. Worse new? The Redskins did not have a third quarter on their list, even in the training team, and would play blind if something happened to McCoy.
Alex Smith suffers from both a fibula and a shin, 33 years after the day Joe Theismann suffered an injury putting an end to his career at his career, while it was not. The two bones of the right leg were broken.
Then: Dallas Cowboys
Consecutive defeats released the Panthers' grip in the NFC race. Fortunately for them at the moment, there are only six NFC teams with winning records. One thing is clear. The Panthers must begin to pile up victories in a next stretch including the Buccaneers and Browns. They finish the season by playing the Saints in two of their last three games, a far from ideal scenario.
Then: Home against Seattle Seahawks
That's the panic in Minnesota. Although defeated Sunday night in Chicago, the Vikings will have to contend with a difficult schedule to catch up in the division standings – and even to maintain their position in the race with a wild card. After welcoming the Packers in Week 12, they traveled to New England and Seattle. If the Vikings have more than .500 at this point, they must consider themselves lucky.
Then: Home vs Green Bay Packers
The teams on the hunt: Seattle Seahawks (5-5), Dallas Cowboys (5-5), Green Bay Packers (4-5-1), Atlanta Falcons (4-6), Detroit Lions (4-6)
AFC
By the time they embark on their much-anticipated game against the Rams, the Chiefs can take a consolation measure twisted. A loss would have minimal impact on their playoff position. The Rams are an NFC team and therefore do not directly take into account the breakages of equality. Anyway, the most important task of the leaders is for the moment to put the finishing touches to West Africa after the Chargers' last-minute defeat against the Broncos on Sunday. There are now two games between the teams and the Chiefs are halfway to decisive advantage face to face.
Then: Monday night at Los Angeles Rams

A 1-2-1 start gave the Steelers a 23% chance of participating in the playoffs, according to FPI. In the literal sense, they overcame the obstacles. After defeating the Jaguars for their sixth straight win on Sunday, their odds of reaching the FPI playoffs are now 98%. Their remaining schedule, including home games against the Chargers and Patriots and a trip to New Orleans, is not easy. But the Steelers were hot just when they needed it and are now on the verge of qualifying for the playoffs.
Then: In Denver Broncos
Not much has changed here after a week of suspension from AFC East. The Patriots have a two-game lead in the division with just two games to go against opponents who currently have a winning record. They will have the opportunity to improve their position at the conference during week 15, if it is not before, during their visit to Pittsburgh. For now, they are ranked ahead of the Texans because of their win in head-to-head the first week.
Then: New York Jets
Texans are in historical territory. It's been 93 years since an NFL team won seven straight games after a 0-3 debut, according to research from the Elias Sports Bureau. With six games to play, they are in a strong position in the South CFC. In addition to having a two-game lead over the Colts and Titans, they also have a 5-2 record in conference. This is two better games (in the column of losses) than the Colts and three better than the Titans, a useful combination if and when a tiebreaker needs to be applied.

The Ravens saved their season with quarterback Joe Flacco dismissed by injury, preventing the Bengals from rising into the random discussion. For now, they have the decisive advantage over the other four teams of 5-5. They have a better division record (2-3) than the Bengals and a better conference record (5-3) than the Colts and Dolphins.
Then: Home against Oakland Raiders
The teams on the hunt: Cincinnati Bengals (5-5), Indianapolis Colts (5-5), Tennessee Titans (5-5), Denver Broncos (4-6), Cleveland Browns (3-6-1)
