Looks like DeAndre Jordan finally joins the Mavericks. He once sadly signed an agreement with Dallas only to change his mind during the moratorium period and return to Los Angeles. This time, that should not be the case since Jordan has chosen not to sign the last year of his contract in Los Angeles to be able to sign in Dallas.
According to Marc Stein of The New York Times Jordan quickly met the Mavericks once the free agency began on July 1. Both have had mutual interest for a while now. Eventually, they entered into a one – year deal worth $ 24.1 million.
This offer is interesting for much more than the moment of laughter. Jordan will do exactly the same amount of money in Dallas as he would have done with the Clippers when he opted. It was almost as if Jordan had been traded to Dallas, but the Mavericks never had to send anything back to Los Angeles.
It's a win for Jordan and the Mavericks. Jordan gets his money and Dallas gets a talented center on his list for at least a year. If the pairing does not work, they can separate. If it works well, they can discuss a new contract next summer, when teams will have more room for maneuver, thanks to an expected rise in the ceiling.
