The LSU is tied for 140th place among national universities, according to the university rankings released Monday by US News & World Report.
Tulane University, which is a private school, is the highest ranked Louisiana College or University on list # 44.
All rankings are found in the 2019 Best College Report, which includes data on more than 1,800 schools in various categories.
LSU is the only state public school in the forefront of the report.
The second-ranked public schools, ranked in alphabetical order from 230 to 301, are Louisiana Tech, the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, the University of Louisiana at Monroe, and the University of New Orleans.
The four are in the system of the University of Louisiana.
In a statement, the LSU president, F. King Alexander, downplayed the ratings. "Although we are pleased to be recognized as the only public university in Louisiana ranked first, entry-based rankings, such as American news, are becoming more and more obsolete," said Alexander.
"People pay more attention to results-oriented rankings like Washington Monthly and Forbes, because that's what really matters to students and their families," he added.
The school on Friday issued a press release that again cited these two reports.
The Monthly Washington 2018 College Guide and Rankings places LSU in the top half of the Southeast Conference, 90th among the public universities and 30th among the country's flagship universities.
Forbes says that the school is the 59th among the country's public universities and the fifth among SEC public schools.
LSU officials noted that in the United States information report, the school ranked 70th among public universities and 35th among leading institutions.
They said that the LSU had jumped 15 places from last year, ranking 87th, and that its students, according to the survey, are among those with the least college debt at the end of the year. their studies.
Last week, The Wall Street Journal reported that the LSU ranked 352 out of 500 public and private colleges and universities surveyed in its annual survey.
In 2018, LSU tied for 133rd place in the US newsletter.
The University of Princeton is the top rated national university for the eighth consecutive year, according to US News.
The rest of the top five includes Harvard University, Columbia University, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, the University of Chicago, and Yale University.
The highest rated public university is the University of Southern California.
USS is ranked 10th among SEC schools, according to US News.

When asked about the report, the Commissioner for Higher Education, Kim Hunter Reed, echoed Alexander's comments.
"Higher education consumers need solid information to make informed comparisons between colleges and universities based on quality factors such as affordability, security and student success", said Reed in a statement.
"Although this report was highly publicized as it was the first of its kind, higher education leaders are now focusing on rankings like those in Washington, focusing on factors more relevant to students of higher education. today".
Jim Henderson, president of the UL system, downplayed the importance of the report for his schools.
"Information in the United States is still an interesting publication and can be a useful reference resource, especially for research-intensive universities," Henderson said.
