Authorities are investigating an alert at a Salem company that sent 29 people to the hospital.
The incident occurred at Thermal Circuits, a company that manufactures several types of radiators and related products – including warming plates, radiators in vehicle mirrors, military systems and incubators used for infants.
Hazmat officials spent about four hours in the same facility due to a chlorine leak. The building was evacuated and the company's day shift was sent home while the fire department was working in the building for about four hours.
The fire department said that he finished this work around 8:30 pm. and the night shift of about 400 to 500 employees returned to work about 90 minutes later.
Shortly after, the employees started to get sick and the building was evacuated a second time. Fire department officials said the employees had left the building in a state of panic.
Officials at the North Shore Medical Center Hospital in Salem said their staff decontaminate all arriving patients. Officials said the hospital was treating at least 29 patients related to the incident.
A regional hazardous materials team is again investigating the building's interior to determine the cause of the disease, officials said.
Their initial tests did not indicate any dangerous chemicals, but the company will be closed Monday as a precaution.
