2nd death of Influenza Infant reported in 2018-2019

The second flu-associated pediatric death of the 2018-2019 season was reported during the week ending Nov. 17, according to the CDC's latest FluView report. The child was living in Florida, according to the state's Department of Health.

Four other things to know:

1. Influenza activity in the United States remains low, but slight increases have been reported. Influenza A (H1N1) viruses have been most commonly reported since September 30th.

2. Outpatient visits for influenza-like illness remained at 1.9%, below the national baseline of 2.2%. Two out of 10 regions reported influenza-like illness at or above their region-specific baseline.

3. During the week ending November 17, three states experienced moderate activity related to influenza; eight states experienced low activity; and 39 states had minimal activity.

4. The number of deaths related to pneumonia and influenza has fallen below the system-specific epidemic threshold defined in the National Health Statistics Center's Mortality Monitoring System.
