Two brothers and their sister, aged 13 to 20, were killed and their mother injured when a car jumped on a sidewalk and hit them Sunday night while they were walking along Slover Avenue in the Bloomington area.
Jose Manuel Jaureguis, 17 years old; brother Angel Jaureguis, 20 years old; and his sister Andrea Jaureguis, 13 years old; – Died in the collision, said the county coroner's department of San Bernardino. Their mother, Maria Jauregui Luna, was injured. The family comes from Bloomington.
All four were walking along Slover near Locust Avenue around 8:30 pm. When a Dodge Challenger heading east lost control, she went to the sidewalk and hit all four before crashing against a wall, authorities said. .
The 19-year-old driver, Leonardo Bravo of Bloomington, stayed on the scene and was interviewed by the CHP, said Alvarez. Bravo has not been stopped.
The appellants first thought that those affected may have been expelled from the Challenger.
Lorenzo Cardenas, who lives on the other side of the street, heard the accident Sunday night and ran to help. He said that he was shocked to see how the victims were young.
Cardenas said that by the time he arrived at the victims, it was too late. "It was bad," he said.
"The little girl – she was maybe 13 or 14 – could say that her hip was broken," he said. He recalled that the paramedics were working to try to revive the 20-year-old, but that the 17-year-old seemed to have succumbed to his injuries before the rescuers arrived, he added.
"There have been no arrests, but the investigators continue to look for evidence and this could change later, according to what they found," Alvarez said. Alcohol does not seem to be a factor in the accident, officials said.
Cardenas, however, says that he would not be surprised to discover that speed was a factor.
"I hear them running down the street every night," he said.
Cardenas, who has been living in his Bloomington home for 10 years, said he's seen an increase in accidents along the way.
"My neighbors and I all complained to the county," he said, adding that he had gone to the county to ask for a reduction in the speed limit in the area where he was staying. addition of a stop sign on Maple Avenue.
"It's a forehand and these kids use it as a race track," Cardenas said.
CHP officials stated that there are more accidents along Slover Avenue than on any other road monitored by the ministry.
