Three Chicago police officers were attacked and locked up in an Englewood home while they were pursuing a woman who had spat in the face of one of the police, authorities said.

Officers were able to leave the house in the 7000 block of South Throop Street and arrested a woman and two men at around 2:30 pm Monday, the police said.

Senneca Traylor, 19, was charged with aggravated agent battery and resistance to an agent. Janice Lewis, 20, has been charged with aggravated agent battery. Robert Williams, 28, was charged with unlawful coercion and resistance to an officer.

The police were pursuing Lewis when another person threw a piece of wood at the back of an officer's head, the police said.

The police sued this person in a nearby house and other residents of the house locked the police inside, police said. The three officers were treated in hospitals and released.

Chicago police spokesman Anthony Guglielmi said the police officers "show incredible professionalism and restraint after being hit by a 2×4, locked in a house and physically assaulted as a result of the attempt to arrest a woman who spit them out ".

The suspects are expected Wednesday in court.
