Three construction workers were injured when a stairwell collapsed inside a building at the Pawtucket (RI) factory, where they were in the process of to rehabilitate himself.
The workers – two men and a woman – were partially buried under the wreckage and firefighters had to help them, officials told reporters at the scene.
Wilder Arboleda, director of communications, told the Associated Press that the stairwell had collapsed Monday from the second floor. He says that three construction workers are taken to a hospital.
He says everyone is taken into account. He did not immediately know the name of the construction company or the name of the workers.
OSHA investigators are on the scene.
Dozens of workers from three construction companies were inside the building at the time of the collapse of the stairwell.
Arboleda says the workers are rehabilitating the factory and building 140 residential units. The building is adjacent to the Hope Artist Village, a well-known factory restoration that includes artist studios, stores and offices.
