Three other confirmed cases of E. coli infection related to romaine lettuce in Ontario and Quebec, announced Friday Canadian health officials.

The total number of Canadian cases is 22 in three provinces, including New Brunswick, reported the Public Health Agency of Canada and the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA).

The three most recent diseases occurred between the end of October and the 1st of November, at the same time as the previous cases.

Eight people in Canada were hospitalized, one with severe symptoms. Health officials Friday did not reveal whether these people were still in the hospital.

Patients are between 5 and 93 years old and there are more women than men.

The CFIA has stated that it has not found any contaminated products in Canada yet.

The agency is investigating whether Canadian diseases are related to lettuce imported from California. The US Food and Drug Administration said it was probably the origin of lettuce that infected the United States.

Public health officials advise people to discard any romaine lettuce that they might have.
