HICKORY, NC (AP) – Linda Smith, 69, and Linda Dodson, 70, could not hold their excitement when they learned they would escort the US pride chariot from the United States. Mount Rushmore at the Macy's Parade on Thanksgiving Day in New York.

Dodson is no stranger to the Big Apple and Smith lived in Queens with her husband. However, it will be their first participation in a parade.

"I wanted to be in the parade for a while," Smith said. "I was looking for someone to do it with me and Linda said she would."

"My hands are still up," said Dodson. "If someone goes somewhere, I'll go."

Smith and Dodson have been neighbors to Hickory for four years. These are friends who do almost everything together, like watching the TV show "Game of Thrones", traveling to Ireland and now walking next to a tank in the parade of the 92nd Macy Parade.

Smith's son, John, is a manager of a Macy's store in Washington and Marlow Heights in Maryland. He recommended that his mother and Dodson participate in the parade. After a long selection process, they were selected.

Smith and Dodson will participate in the costume show at 6:30 am on Thanksgiving. The parade starts at 9 am

"We had to give them every measure of our body, and we could not lie," laughed Dodson. "There are people on the chariot who are dressed in statues and I hoped that it was not us."

Smith and Dodson traveled to Virginia on Monday and plan to take an early morning train to New York. They will spend Wednesday, Thursday and Friday in town.

"We have a late booking for Carmine's (Italian restaurant) on Wednesday and we will then try to see a show or something of the kind," said Dodson.

"I would like to go to the show" Today, "if we can do it on time," Smith said.

According to the Macy's Parade website, there will be 25 giant balloons, seven balloons (stand-alone balloon vehicles), 31 floats, 20 performers, 12 musicians, over 1,000 clowns and three groups of shows. . Famous artists like John Legend and Pentatonix will perform at the parade.
