"This Is Us" is down year by year, but still No. 1 because Tuesday is a slightly better evening for the return of shows than Monday.

A pair of new series got off to a flying start in Tuesday's hearings, with CBS's # 39; FBI and NBC New Amsterdam both put encouraging figures.

The overall trend for networks was slightly better after Monday's dark numbers for most return shows. The first of the season was largely annual, but the losses were not as good as they were on Monday.
