One sketch envisioned an 80s boys' night with disastrous future results, while Kate McKinnon played Ruth Bader Ginsburg in Kavanaugh hearings in another.
Saturday Night LiveThe premiere of season 44 began cold with a skit in which Matt Damon appeared as Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh. And if the host Adam Driver threw in some Star wars Jokes and cast member, Pete Davidson, repeatedly mocking his engagement with Ariana Grande, the show ended mostly by attacking the testimony of Kavanaugh and his Senate Judiciary Committee regarding allegations of abusive sexual behavior throughout his execution.
A sketch depicts a fraternity feast where everyone's words directly contradict their subsequent actions. "It will be a night we will never forget," said a young man, while a chyron said that he would say in a statement that he does not remember this night.
"I'm going on a trip!" Said another fraternity boy. his chyron simply read, "Dead".
Another fraternal boy, played by Beck Bennett, specifically refers to Kavanaugh. At the beginning of the sketch, he exclaimed, "I can not believe I did it", while the chyron noted that he was perpetually haunted by this moment. In the end, Bennett's character said, "Remember that I did that!" A chryon said that he "had insisted on a federal grand jury never to have done it", followed immediately by a text stating that several party members had seconded him.
"Weekend Update" focused almost exclusively on Kavanaugh, his co-presenters, Colin Jost and Michael Che, significantly expanding the candidate's potential for the Supreme Court. As expected, they made fun of the beer judge's frequent references and his calendars in his testimony before the Senate Judiciary Committee.
"If you took a ball every time Brett Kavanaugh lied about his album, you'd be as drunk as Brett Kavanaugh was in 1982," Jost said. "I just want to remind everyone that all those howls and crying occurred during the job interview of this guy," Che said.
Kate McKinnon later appeared at the office "Update" under the name Ruth Bader Ginsburg. "Hey, Jeff Flake, you can borrow a pair of my panties because you're so worried about having to cover your ass!" It's a Ginsburn! She exclaimed before doing a little dance. She also showed her 1982 schedule, which included the ball points "100 years old, breaking the glass ceiling and doing tricks in a bird bath". The only thing on his calendar for 2018 was "Do not die!
The sketch then cut to Driver in an FBI interrogation room. "But it was the 80s," he said.
While most of the episode dealt with Kavanaugh, there were some unrelated skits, like the one in which Driver played the role of a cursed dad in the hope of making connections with his son playing online video game. Fortnite, with avatars played by Kyle Mooney and Pete Davidson.
Driver also played the role of an elderly oil baron and exceeding expectations by giving an inspiring and aggressive speech to young students.
Bennett and Mooney also wrote a skit about the fact that the neo-confederates have a meeting on creating a society where everyone is white. Driver played a character who repeatedly pointed out that what they described was like Vermont.
