The AMC Series has its smallest rating of 18-49 for a first in its history, while Jodie Whittaker's debut as a Doctor improves from the first season of the series.

New season of The dead who walk scored 2.5 among adults aged 18 to 49 and 6.08 million viewers. This is the smallest rating from 18 to 49 years old for a season premiere in the history of the series – the series debut in 2010 got a 2.7 – and tied for the second lowest note of all episodes. Sunday's show dropped by 50% compared to the first season 2017, the eighth of the season.
The 6.08 million viewers have captured the smallest total audience in the series since mid-season two. The dead who walk is generally a good late performer, but a catch-up week is unlikely to bring the show back to the same day average for the first of season eight (5.0 in 18-49, 11.44 viewers).
On the bright side (ish) for AMC, the network has made the Walking Dead premiere is available 24 hours earlier on its AMC Premiere subscription service, helping to create the best day for new listings since the launch of the service in the summer of 2017.

The BBC broadcast drew 8.2 million people to the UK, beating the first episodes of the last two doctors, Peter Capaldi and Matt Smith.
