The fans of "Walking Dead" have been preparing for the end Sunday – the end of the main character Rick Grimes.
The show, which had been announced as the final episode of Grimes (played by Andrew Lincoln) after nine seasons spent trying to escape the hordes of zombies while struggling to rebuild civilization, was well sure a big roller coaster.
But is the universe "The Walking Dead" done with Rick … for real? Maybe not yet.
In the episode, Rick (who had been impaled on rebar bars last week) spent most of his time almost, but not quite dead, trying to scare away a large group walkers. While he was walking, deceased friends, including Shane, Hershel and Sasha, had helped him continue.
He ended up blowing up a bridge with himself and the walkers on while his friends Daryl, Michonne, Maggie and Daryl were looking at him – and they were sure he saw him die. But then, the viewers saw Rick being taken into a helicopter with Jadis, assuring him that he would be fine.
Which is never a guarantee of "Walking Dead", but in this case, Rick seems to be doing a second act. The show's executive producer, Scott M. Gimple, has revealed in The Hollywood Reporter that at least three original AMC films are ready to pursue Rick's adventures.
"There are other stories to tell and we will tell them," said Gimple, who is writing the first untitled movie for television. Filming is scheduled for 2019, although release dates are not yet available.
"Over the next few years, we will be making specials, new series are quite conceivable, high quality digital content, and content that defies description for the moment," Gimple added. "We will dig in the past and see old characters. We will introduce new characters and new situations."
The main thing was to make sure Lincoln could spend more time with his family. the actor spends nine months a year shooting the series and making a movie only requires two months of his schedule.
Also note: these films do not seem to unfold while the action of the last nine seasons. Which means Rick will survive the injuries he suffered in his last episode.
Good news so, zombie fans: Rick may not be dead, but he has more lives than even the most enduring zombies!
