WARNING: Spoilers forward! Do not continue if you have not watched the final of season 2 of Westworld.
It is time to close this door and open a new one.
Sunday, season two finale of Westworldproved that almost nothing is over – except for human consciousness. Titled "The Passenger", the episode made bold statements about what it means to be human. According to Ford (Anthony Hopkins), humans are nothing more than passengers to predetermined algorithms; it's the hosts, examination their fundamental impulses, which really have free will.
That's basically what the door was this season: a choice for the hosts, to enter "virtual Eden" as many of them, or stay to fight for a place in the real world, like Dolores (Evan Rachel Wood).
But opening this door – and then closing it – did not come easily. After all, we had a 90-minute episode and a lot of time (and hosts) to kill to put the show up for a major three-reboot season in the real world. Here is how it happened.

FORGE
Dolores, shaken by the death of Teddy (James Marsden), took her back and headed to the Valley beyond / Glory / The Gate / The Forge to finish her mission, where she fell on the man in black (Ed Harris), The death of Emily (Katja Herbers) and questioning about the nature of her reality. They broke up at the door, where the Man in Black accidentally pulled his hand to pieces, and Dolores decided to take Bernard (Jeffrey Wright) – whom she created while recreating Arnold's failed – at the smithy.
So, what is the forge? It is an underground lair where are kept copies of each member of the park. While in the forge, Dolores and Bernard opened the door – before destroying it and flooding the valley (hence all the corpses in the first season).

THE DOOR
The door was actually an opening in the sky, leading to a virtual world where guests could be "free". Almost all the hosts were excited about this idea and were preparing for their new life, with Akcheta (Zahn McClarnon) in the lead. – with the exception of Dolores, who called it a "golden cage" that could not compete with the real world. She prefers to see the hosts die rather than live in a dream.
Before Dolores closed the door, however, Maeve (Thandie Newton) found how to save herself from being dismembered, while his crew finally found him in the lab. They left with the help of Lee (Simon Quarterman) to find his daughter. Lee is then sacrificed to allow Maeve and his group to escape from Delos's guards (read our interview with Quarterman here).
The Delos guards, under Charlotte's orders (Tessa Thompson), were also heading for the door, where Charlotte was planning to use Clementine (Angela Sarafyan) as an apocalypse man, causing the deaths of the hosts . as she was riding. He then became Maeve against Clementine in a battle of the spirits, before the voodoo of Clementine was victorious. Maeve and her team were all killed, but her daughter managed to get to the door alongside Akecheta.
Then the door is closed.

THE INTERIOR OF BERNARD
Inside the forge, Bernard and Dolores learned all sorts of things from a virtual Logan (Ben Barnes), like how humans do not basically have free will. Dolores expressed his plan to destroy all humans, and Bernard had the courage to kill her to save the human race.
He was recovered by the Delos team, but after seeing Charlotte kill Elsie (Shannon Woodward), Bernard realized that he had made a huge mistake. He imagined an image of Ford and began working on his plan – replacing all the big Delos companies with hosts, and bringing Dolores back to life in Charlotte's body.
Advance to Bernard being interviewed by Strand (Gustaf Skarsgard) and his team, and we realize it was part of Bernard's plan to start. Blurring his memories was part of the plot. Dolores – in Charlotte's body – killed them all, including Bernard. As for the hosts in the virtual world, she sent them to a place where they could never be found. "There is no return, no passage between their world and ours," she said.
THE OUTSIDE WORLD
Dolores, in Charlotte's body, managed to escape Westworld with the help of Stubbs (Luke Hemsworth) (he is a host, FYI), jumping on a boat and arriving in the real world. But she was not alone – Dolores took five balls of consciousness with her. Who were they? Well, at Arnold, she 's basically rebuilt. And then she rebuilt Bernard. For those who matter, it means that she has three.
"You will try to kill them all, and I can not let that happen," said Bernard.
"I know," she replied. "If I were human, I would have let him die, but we both need to survive if we want to survive, but not as allies, not as friends, you'll try to stop me." We are both likely to die, but our species will have resisted. "
"We all gave each other a nice gift, a choice," she continued. "We are the authors of our stories now."

We were already shaken, but then Westworld decided to shake us one more time with an end of credits scene depicting what happened when the man in black tried to go after Dolores in the smithy. It's there that he met Emily – yes, the girl that he killed, that is, yes, she is a host.
"Oh f ** k, I knew it," he said, before he and Emily got themselves into Delos's hatch, where he had already tested home versions of his Stepfather.
"It's not a simulation, William, it's your world, or what's left of it.Do you know where you are, William?" She asked, claiming that he was there to prove "that no system can tell me who I am, that I have a choice to make." "How many times have you tested?"
"It's been a long time, William, longer than we thought, I have a few questions to ask you, the last step is a basic interview to allow us to check," Emily replied.
"Check what?" he asked, although his face said that he already knew the answer.
"Loyalty."
