4 dead, 1 injured in a shootout at the birthday party of a Texas toddler

At least four men were killed and another wounded Saturday after a shootout at a baby's birthday party in South Texas, police said while they were looking for two suspects who had fled.

Two families gathered at a house in Taft, 19 km north of Corpus Christi, shortly after 5 pm Corpus Christi Caller Times said Saturday on the occasion of the child's first birthday party that an altercation broke out.

The shooters opened fire and killed four men at the party. Another man was taken to the hospital in an unknown state.

"The Texas Rangers have informed the department of the incident and, for the moment, the investigation is underway," Sgt said. Nathan Brandley, spokesman for the Texas Department of Security, told reporters. "We urge residents to contact DPS if they know of any information about the shooting."

The authorities are looking for the two suspects who fled after the shooting.

The argument was not clear as to what triggered the shooting.
