45-year-old man arrested for threatening to shoot his rival Fortnite, 11, police

A 45-year-old New York police officer was arrested for threatening to shoot an 11-year-old boy over Fortnite, police said.

Huntington resident Michael Aliperti reportedly uttered verbal and text message threats on Xbox after the boy beat him, the Suffolk County Police Department said in a press release.

Aliperti told the child that he would kill him, "maybe at his school," in messages sent Monday around 9 pm, the statement said.

Aliperti was arrested at his Long Island home on Tuesday at around 1:40 pm and charged with aggravated second degree harassment and acting in a way to injure a child. He was scheduled to appear in court on Tuesday.

It is unclear whether Aliperti has retained the services of a lawyer or he has children.

Additional details about the case were not immediately available.

Fortnite has become a cultural phenomenon among players since its release last year.
