TAMPA, Florida – Police are investigating seven people, including five children, injured after being hit by a vehicle while waiting at a bus stop in Tampa.
Police and firefighters said the accident occurred just after 8 am, at a school bus stop near 16th Street and Bougainvillea. Mayor Bob Buckhorn responded to the scene on Thursday morning.
The Tampa police say seven people; five children and two adults were sent to the hospital. Two of the children were seriously injured. According to the police, none of the injuries constitute a danger of death.
The victims were identified: Alexandra Torres-Banegas, 6, Allinson Galindo, 6, Enrique Antonio Tobias Patino, 6, Sandy Quintana, 9, Perla Galindo, 12, Yanely Jurado, 31, and Laura Patino Chavez, 32 years old.

Witnesses told police that the vehicle drove east on Bougainvillea at high speed before hitting pedestrians on the south side of the street. The driver is on the scene and cooperates with the police. At this time, the driver was not loaded.

All children are students at the Woodson PreK-8 Leadership Academy. The director, Ovett Wilson, spent the day at Tampa General and St. Joseph's Children's Hospital, to monitor the victims and their families. He said that they were all in a good mood and were incredibly happy to see someone from the school show themselves to show his support.
"It's the best feeling I've ever had. In a difficult situation like this, have the student turn on, see the parents brighten, the family turn on. It was a good feeling, just give them a hand, let them know we're here, "Wilson said.
And this support, he said, extends to all Woodson students. The district told ABC Action News that it had brought additional resources.
"We had several guidance counselors from all over. And a wave of support has helped our students, our parents and our faculty and staff to overcome this situation, "said Wilson.
The Tampa police said the cause of the accident remained under investigation.
"At that time, it does not appear that the accident was intentional nor the driver intoxicated.It is unclear whether the driver was driving at high speed at the time of the accident, although that one witness stated that he believed the car was traveling at a high rate of speed, "Tampa police said in a press release.
Police say the charges are pending.
