A New Jersey family expressed disbelief and grief on Saturday after a father and his four daughters were killed in a frontal accident in Delaware

"I do not understand why these things happen "said Daniel Trinidad, who lost his brother and four nieces. "The whole family has disappeared in the blink of an eye."

The girls' mother was seriously injured in the accident, but she is expected to survive, police said. Three other people were injured.

"I do not know how my sister-in-law will take that," said Trinidad. "She's the only one to have survived."

A Ford pickup truck, driven by Alvin S. Hubbard Jr. of East New Market (Maryland), aged 44, crossed a grassy road on Delaware Highway 1 through Townsend and northbound . He hit the family van on Friday afternoon.

The victims were identified as residents of Teaneck: Audie Trinidad, 61, and her daughters, Nikki, 20, Danna, 17, and Allison and Melissa, two 13-year-old twins.

Audie was a postman and his wife worked as a nurse, according to the family.

"They are a loving family, a family that fears God," said Daniel Trinidad. "My brother and the kids go to church every Sunday, I do not know why these things happen to nice people."

The eldest daughter had just graduated from college and Danna was to be a high school graduate. The twins would have entered the eighth grade.

Friends said that a vigil was scheduled for 9 pm. Saturday at the Park Votee in Teaneck.

Police said the investigation into the cause of the accident is ongoing. The detectives did not disclose a preliminary cause.

"It's certainly heartbreaking as you can imagine, those of us who have families and children, I feel so bad for this family, I can not imagine what that they will do through, "State Police Master Cpl. Melissa Jaffe said:
