Syracuse, NY – Five people, including one child, were killed Thursday night on Midland Avenue, according to Syracuse police

Syracuse police shortly after 11 pm said five people, including an 8-year-old girl, were injured during the shooting of 1315-17 Midland Avenue. The police are waiting for the victims to survive.

The Syracuse fire brigade and a witness initially reported that seven victims, including children, were involved.

Police responded to the call at 9:01 pm, the shipping logs were posted.

Witnesses said they saw two or three possible shooters. A witness reported at least 10 shots near the house.

While a woman was talking to a journalist, she counted how many victims she knew.

"My daughter, my nephew, my friend, my niece and my other niece," she said, crying.

Neighbors gathered at home to mark the death of Richard Harris, who died of palliative care for pancreatic cancer, according to his neighbors.

Tammy Jamison said she was reunited for the memorial when gunshots suddenly erupted.

She did not see the shooter nor the shooters but stated that it was not a shootout. She heard at least 15 shots and tried to take cover.

Jamison said that the assembled people, about 50 of them, ran inside the house to get into the shelter.

"When the shooting started, I dodged it," she said. "What would you do?"

Many ambulance crews were called to the scene to take the victims to Upstate University Hospital, regulators said. Some left with a police escort at 9:15 pm

Police in Syracuse said they responded to several calls to the 911 center, reporting that several people had been injured.

Upon arrival, the police observed a large crowd of people and located several people who had been affected, the police said. On-scene officers requested additional ambulances and officers responded to the scene.

The wounded were transported to the University Hospital of Upstate,
the police said.

Siracusa Mayor Ben Walsh and Syracuse Police Chief Frank Fowler were on the scene after 22 hours.

According to witnesses and family members, the home of Rashaad Walker Jr.'s family was the home of the shooting, 1315-17 Midland Avenue.

Walker, 20 months old, was shot and killed in the afternoon of November 28, 2010 in the 300 block of Coolidge Avenue.

The baby was sitting in a car seat in a parked van when Saquan Evans, a prominent member of the Bricktown gang, opened fire on the vehicle, according to what the authorities claimed was an attempt to kill his father, a reputed gang 110 member.

Evans was sentenced to 25 years in prison for second-degree murder and 15 years for second-degree possession of a weapon.

Outside the house is a 6 foot high sign with the boy's picture. Thursday night, as the police roamed the streets in search of witnesses, candles in front of her were lit.
