6.6 magnitude 6.8 earthquakes reported near Vancouver

PORT HARDY, BRITISH COLUMBIA –

US geology reports that two powerful earthquakes struck Sunday night off the coast of British Columbia, Canada, near Vancouver Island.

According to the USGS, the first earthquake – magnitude 6.6 – occurred around 22:39. PDT about 135 miles (218 kilometers) southwest of Port Hardy, Canada. It has occurred at a depth of about 11 km.

Less than 40 minutes later, a second earthquake with a magnitude of 6.8 struck nearby, about 197 km southwest of Port Hardy. It occurred at a depth of about 6.2 miles (10 kilometers).

No damage warning or tsunami has been reported.
