700 new dengue cases in two weeks in Telangana | Hyderabad News

HYDERABAD: In a major health crisis, 700 new dengue cases, including 23 in Hyderabad, were reported throughout the state in about two weeks. While thousands of patients have landed in hospitals, 46 dengue cases were reported Sunday, mainly at Khamman and Warangal.

In addition, six cases of chikungunya were recorded Saturday by Khamman, while private hospitals could be at least five times more numerous.

Doctors and health experts blame the engorgement in the city for the outbreak of dengue cases. Aedes mosquitoes spread in dengue fever and breed in fresh water, making them much more dangerous than Anopheles mosquitoes causing malaria.

The number of dengue cases increased from 1,121 on August 30 to 1,816 on September 15, according to the records of the National Program for the Control of Vector-borne Diseases.

Cases on the rise in most parts of the state

Although the dengue season started early this year with some cases recorded in February, cases have now reached their peak. "Dengue cases are on the rise in most parts of the state and many cases are reported on the outskirts of the city and in neighboring districts, with the majority going to private hospitals. We also receive many cases at our hospital, "said Dr. K Shankar, director of Fever Hospital.

In the meantime, the season will continue until October or November. With more rain expected in the next few days, cases could increase further, according to doctors.

Studies have established that about 80% of dengue virus infections come from individuals with mild or non-dengue symptoms, but who are carriers, which means that many other cases may not be reported. The fact that people with no dengue symptoms could be carriers was found in a study conducted last year by the University of Notre Dame, based in the United States.
