According to authorities, a former Cleveland area justice found guilty of beating his wife four years ago is the prime suspect of his knife-ear death over the weekend.

In audio of a 911 call released on Monday, an apparent relative of the Cuyahoga County ex judge, Lance Mason, 51, told a police officer that she He had heard that he had killed his wife, Aisha Fraser.

"He said that he stabbed her and that she was dead," said the parent who identified herself in the audio as being Mason 's sister.

The calls and cries of the children are heard throughout the conversation, which lasts about 10 minutes.

Mason was indicted on Monday for criminal assault after hitting his SUV in a police vehicle while he was trying to flee the scene in the suburbs of Cleveland, according to court documents.

But he has not yet been formally charged with Fraser's death.

The Shaker Heights Police Department said Mason was arrested Saturday morning after Fraser's death.

Mason, who was also a state representative and senator, served nine months in prison after pleading guilty to a brutal assault on Fraser in 2014.

Fraser filed for divorce soon after, but the case has not been settled yet, according to Cleveland.com.

Mason was hired last year by the city of Cleveland as a director of minority business development. A statement released Saturday said that he had been fired immediately.

The messages seeking comment were left to a lawyer who has represented Mason in the past.

In a statement released Monday, Shaker Heights police said that the injured policeman, Adam Flynt, was doing well and that he should soon get out of the hospital.
