It's awkward as shit. Several Senators players – including Chris Wideman, Matt Duchene, Chris Tierney, Thomas Chabot, Dylan DeMelo and Alex Formenton – recently passed a split round in Phoenix, criticizing Ottawa assistant coach Martin Raymond and laughing at the defensive futility of their team. We know this because the driver of the vehicle had a camera hidden under the rearview mirror and posted the recorded conversation on the Internet. Here it is, via the Ottawa Citizen:
Most of the shit talk comes at the expense of Raymond, who manages the team's shots on goal this season, and who led the team's power play last year. Duchene, seated in the second row on the passenger side, faces Raymond very badly: "Marty Raymond, the only coach in NHL history to have the worst power play and the worst PK at one year of the calendar year." a conversation, mostly between Duchene and Wideman, about how Raymond's video meetings are worthless and includes nothing more than Raymond describing the action in the video, without enlightening or changing anything. Even without the ruthless shredding of their own team and their assistant coach, the video is fun for discussions as complicated as Duchene's: "I got screwed up in the glass" and teammates imploring DeMelo to do some sort of game his head, but if possible without being touched in the face. This is certain: the next video session directed by Martin Raymond will be very uncomfortable.
