The eldest son of former Republican governor of Arizona, Jan Brewer, died suddenly over the weekend, the family announced Monday.
"Breaking news for me," Brewer wrote on Twitter, announcing the death of Ronald Brewer, 54. "The prayers for me and my family are greatly appreciated."
The exact cause of his son's death was unclear. The obituary shared by Brewer indicates that he died last Saturday in his sleep and emphasizes his "adventurous spirit and extrovert personality" as well as his "radiant smile, sense of humor and laughter." "
"He attended a private high school in Provo, Utah, and graduated as a valedictorian from his class," reads in the death notice. "Ron loved his shoes, which would take him to his favorite activities such as camping, enjoying nature, picking flowers and hiking in the Hole in the Rock to admire Phoenix's beautiful sunsets. He would share everything he would have with everyone he would meet.

According to Arizona Republic, his son has been struggling with mental illness for decades and had to stay in a mental health facility for a long time after being found not guilty by reason of insanity in a sexual assault case in 1989.
The former governor said in 2010 that the son "was fighting for his well-being, before and after (the) incident". Her illness, she said, has helped to better understand mental health issues and make informed decisions.
He is the second son of Brewer lost. One of his three sons, John Brewer, died in 2007 as a result of cancer.
Many lawmakers and community leaders have sent their condolences on social media to the family and to the former governor.
