Possible tornadoes: 1 death in Tennessee as the storm moves to the east on polling day

At least one person died after a possible tornado in Tennessee, causing heavy rain and gusty winds.

According to authorities, one woman died and two others were injured in the night when a tornado ravaged a district of Rutherford County in Tennessee.

The deceased's identity was not revealed, but police said her home had collapsed when bad weather hit the Midland area in Christiana, Tennessee. Two others were injured in a damaged mobile home that spilled during the storm. A third person was injured but refused treatment.

"Both occupiers said they felt like they were tipping over," a Rutherford County Emergency Medical Service official told reporters on Tuesday. "The two people were transported to a local hospital for further evaluation and a person subsequently signed a refusal stating that he did not want to be transported out of another damaged house."

According to the National Meteorological Service, the area was under tornado surveillance. The service warned that parts of eastern Tennessee, Alabama, Georgia and North Carolina could experience strong winds, tornadoes and heavy showers this week.

In total, there have been more than 40 damaging storm reports between Louisiana and Kentucky, including a possible tornado in Louisiana.

A warmer climate is expected in the southernmost parts of the country, from Los Angeles to southern Florida.
