With a record of 3 to 5 after a troublesome home defeat in prime time, the Dallas Cowboys have officially become a line of punch in 2018.
The fact is that there are a lot of bad football teams. The Eagles do not really look great this season. As unthinkable as it may seem, they could even lose to the Cowboys this Sunday night. You can never be too sure in the NFL, so be careful with the trashy speech this week.
But being a grueling laughingstock, on the other hand, is supposed to be cyclical in a parity-made league, which is the case for most franchises. The funny thing is that the Cowboys are not part of these franchises, it's not long ago, and it's mostly a person's fault.
Jerry Jones. The owner, president, general manager of the Cowboys, the puppeteer and the chief doctor (probably) Jerry Jones.
It was not enough that the Cowboys were bad this season, you see, even if all the signs were there. Jones stayed a year or three too long with Jason Garrett as coach, and failed to surround his beleaguered quarterback with anyone who could be considered remotely as a weapon in the passing game. Yet, as a musician who moves too far from the formula and makes a bad album, everything was correctable with next year's edition.
Except that Jones was not content to be mean in 2018. He assured that the Cowboys would go nowhere after trading their first-round pick – currently screened in the top 10 – against Amari Cooper, doubling the number of teams with a coach in battle, quarterback and record loser.
And Jones seems ready to further entrench the Cowboys in mediocrity, repeatedly announcing his intention to extend the contract of the said quarterback, who seems to lack the tools to be at the center of an NFL offense. Dak Prescott was hindered to some extent by his coaching and an insufficient support cast, but nearly three years after his career, most teams were considering at least Plan B.
Not Jones, who operates as if the Cowboys were in a permanent state of conflict at the Super Bowl and made decisions with the discipline of a teenager playing Madden. It will pay money to its favorite players until the organization is at its lowest, or a draw for expensive short-term solutions, while the list should be complemented by inexpensive talents and in development. He will choose the short-sighted movement again and again, no matter how many GIFs indicate the exact moment when his heart will break again in a luxurious and luxurious box.
Of course, high-profile movements sometimes work well and the Cowboys take part in the playoffs, as in 2014 and 20164. Only Jones's methods since the late 1990s have been more likely to produce a team of eight. -8 or worse, a good year between the two is rarely sustainable.
The Eagles may not be world champions this season and have only one Super Bowl versus five for the Cowboys. Yet, much like the Cowboy fans said that the Eagles would never win this first win, there is a new trash line that will ring true every year, no matter what the records are:
The Cowboys will never win another Super Bowl as long as Jerry Jones is in charge.
