HOUSTON – An election worker received a quote for contact aggression on Tuesday after an altercation with an elector at a polling station in northwestern Houston.
Rolanda Anthony said that the first stop of his election was held at the Baptist Church of Liberation, polling place at the 1012 polling station in Harris County. and questioned her address at home.
"She was very warlike and disrespectful," Anthony said.
Anthony stated that when she had asked Barnes a question, her response had been accused of racism.
"Maybe if I had a dark-skinned makeup today, you'd be able to understand what I'm saying," Anthony said, recounting what she'd said, Barnes had shouted.
"I was just dismayed," Anthony continued. "I could not believe that it was happening to me."
Anthony said that another election officer had tried to intervene, but that Barnes would not back down.
"She came to my face a second time, screaming, screaming and screaming," Anthony said.
Prestina Ford Stuckey, the neighborhood election secretary, said that she had tried to help.
"She kept putting her finger in her face," said Stuckey. "She would not back down."
The incident was reported to the election committee and deputies were summoned to the church.
"When we responded, we interviewed both parties and a quote was sent to the poll clerk," said a local MP.
A representative of the county electoral office stated that the behavior alleged against Barnes was unacceptable and that the worker had been sent home.
Anthony said that she was finally able to vote.
"People, nobody should be treated like this," said Anthony. "Nobody."
MPs said that the charge against Barnes was a class C offense and that she should appear in court.
