The body of a fifth victim was found in the rubble of two dilapidated buildings that collapsed this week in the French city of Marseille.

The buildings collapsed Monday morning and the emergency services swept the rubble.

Authorities said they were looking for the causes of the collapse of the buildings, described by locals as being dilapidated and in need of repair.

Dozens of police and firefighters have been working non-stop on the site since the collapse of the buildings.

French Interior Minister Christophe Castaner said that pockets of air under the debris let hope to find someone who could be saved.

Castaner said that 120 police officers and 80 firefighters had taken part in the search and rescue operation, working through the pile of beams and rubble.

One of the buildings was apparently vacant and the other housed apartments.
