It's rare to get a glimpse of Bill Belichick's drive spirit.
Showtime did just that with a New England Patriots coaching sequence for "Inside the NFL" which showed Belichick literally applauding his defense for his job against Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers , in a 31-17 victory Sunday.
Belichick the cheerleader?
"We want what we want," said Belichick during a parallel encouragement speech. "Keep working the [expletive] out of these guards. Keep it in your pocket. He tried to throw us two interceptions now. We will have one. He just lobbed it up there.
"It's a great job. Keep squeezing it. If he runs backwards, then run him out of bounds, that's awesome. "
Rare observation of a happy belichick
First of all, it's nice to see that Belichick is not always sneering, grunting or pushing back. It was a real demonstration of rah-rah from the Patriots coach who welcomed the game of his defense to slow down one of the best players of the game.
And about this great player. It's a bit shocking to hear someone blame Rodgers for just "lobbing up there." The Packers quarterback seems almost always composed and makes good decisions.
The Patriots never had this interception on Rodgers' side, but limited it to 269 yards and a pair of touchdowns, with a derisory achievement rate of 55.8%. It's a victory against Rodgers on all reasonable grounds.
Love it or hate it, it's impossible to deny Belichick's greatness. Any idea of his coaching process deserves a look.
