McCollum for 40 while Blazers burn Bucks

CJ McCollum scored 40 points, the highest of the season, to put the Portland Trail Blazers past the visit to the Milwaukee Bucks 118-103 on Tuesday.

McCollum had 17 of 26 field shots, six assists and five rebounds while Portland won for the fifth time in six outings.

Evan Turner contributed 16 points and 11 rebounds to the Trail Blazers bench, who shot 52.7% of the score and 17 points out of 43 (39.5%) at 3 points.

Giannis Antetokounmpo had 23 points, nine rebounds and six assists, and Khris Middleton added 22 points, eight boards and six assists for the Bucks.

Lillard and McCollum each scored 13 points while Portland took a 57-51 lead at halftime. The Blazers shot 51.2% on the field in the half, including 10 against 21 on the 3-point line. Brook Lopez had 16 points and Antetokounmpo 13 for Milwaukee.

The Bucks reduced their margin to 74-70 in the third quarter. The Blazers used a 9-2 run to extend their lead to 83-72. The Portland crown was 91-77 as the last period approached.

Milwaukee narrowed the gap to 91-85 early in the fourth quarter. Turner hit back to back to give Portland the advantage at 98-88.

The Bucks responded with a 5-0 spurt to 98-93, but McCollum's 3-pointer raised the score to 101-93 with a time of 6:48.

Antetokounmpo's dunk – his eighth in the game – reduced him to 101-95. The Blazers responded with an 8-0 run to qualify 109-95 with 4:23 left. The Bucks did not get more than 10 points ahead of the rest of the way.

Portland started the game 5 for 7, going from 3 points en route to a 19-13 lead. Milwaukee, with Lopez scoring 10 points early, fought back to take a 26-24 advantage. The Blazers made a 33-31 lead in the second quarter.

Seth Curry's jumper gave Portland a 49-38 mid-quarter lead. The Bucks fell back to 53-51 late in the period.
