While the biggest story of this week's blockbuster Walking Dead The episode was Rick's departure from the series. In helicopter, he found himself in a new trilogy of TWD films. It ended with another iconic image: an adult Judith wearing Rick's hat, brandishing Rick's Colt with a Michonne mini-sword attached to his back.
Lil ass-kicker, indeed.
We all knew that Judith would eventually grow up, but since the end of season 8, we have grown about 7.5 years, which means that Judith has gone from a toddler to probably about 10 or 11 years. And now, we know that it is no longer just an accessory to wear in beauty.
She replaces Carl.
In hindsight, I feel that this has always been the plan. Carl's death has always shaken his head because it was a wild departure from comics, and it seemed like it would neutralize many future scenarios, including a nascent relationship with Negan and the fact that Carl was essentially the star of the film. Whisperers next plot.
And yet we have the impression The dead who walk discovered that he was replaceable by another Grimes, who could continue on his legacy even though Chandler Riggs was leaving the series right at the age of 18 and seemed about to lead him, especially in the ### Absence of Rick.
Judith was killed in comics while she was a baby, at the same time as Lori during the jailed imprisonment by the governor. As such, like Carol, she survived her performance to become an important figure in a full-fledged series, although it took about six years.
Although I do not think Judith is leading The dead who walk now, it seems very clear that she will take over from Carl, while some speculated before that it could be Enid or even a Henry, also older now. She does it not only in her look, Rick's hat and everything, but also in her story, as glimpses indicate that she will have some sort of relationship with Negan's imprisoned, a relationship that Carl was supposed to have in the comics.
And then there are Whisperers. It's no longer a mistake to reveal Carl's story, since it will not happen, but in the comics, Carl saves and falls in love with the daughter of the enemy leader, Lydia. We know that Lydia continues to be part of the cast, and it is possible that both of them may be friends, although they are not romantically involved (Judith feels too young for this at this point), and the script could unfold in the same way. The actress Lydia, stone castleCailey Fleming, 18, is Judith's new actress, Cailey Fleming (who played Young Rey in Star wars), is 11. Fleming could probably play younger, so it goes without saying that, of course, they could become friends. Or maybe we could see a love story with her and Henry, acting as a substitute for Carl.
The fact is that The dead who walk had a backup plan for the show losing Carl in the form of Judith. The conspiracy theorists would say that Chandler Riggs was fired because he was about to negotiate a new contract once he was 18, which would have cost the CMA tens of millions. Replacing him with a new unknown actress like Judith is a measure of economics. And yet, with the huge amount of money that AMC continues to devote to the rest of the distribution and production of TWD shows and now movies, I really do not think it was a financial decision. It was creative.
It was still a bad idea, let's be clear. I can easily see a scenario where we have this new little badass Judith and Carl still in the series. I understand there is only one hat, but it could easily have been two surviving Grimes to continue after Rick. Even if The dead who walk could turn and understand how to move forward with key intrigues without Carl, it does not mean that they should And I think giving a candle to Chandler Riggs before the start of his most important scenario remains a big mistake.
We'll see what Judith does in this new era of the series as a substitute for Carl. She may be great, but I still think we've been wrong.
