MOSCOW – The Kremlin hopes that North Korean leader Kim Jong Un will visit Russia next year.
Russian Foreign Minister Vladimir Putin's Foreign Affairs Advisor, Yuri Ushakov, said on Wednesday: "I hope this visit will be possible next year." This announcement contrasts with previous Kremlin statements that Kim was scheduled to visit Russia this fall.
Last month, the Kremlin said that Putin invited Kim to visit Russia and that Moscow was working on the details of where and when this meeting could take place.
North Korea began talks with the United States and South Korea earlier this year, saying it was willing to negotiate to eliminate its nuclear arsenal. Nuclear diplomacy then bogged down because of suspicions about North Korea's sincerity about its commitment to disarmament.
