FAIRMONT, W.Va. (WDTV) – New self-check blood pressure stations have opened in Marion County.
Both stations, located in Fairmont, allow people to learn the importance of checking blood pressure.
The WVU extension service works in partnership with the Marion County Disability Action Center to place the stations in the cities.
One in three adults has high blood pressure. it contributes to more than a thousand deaths a day.
Lauren Prinzo, of Marion County, responsible for family and community development, said she hoped people would take advantage of this free service by installing them in common and accessible areas of the city.
"It's really important to quickly identify people with high blood pressure so that they can seek help from a medical care provider to control it," Prinzo said. . "Many people with high blood pressure do not know it."
There are no appointments required to use the stations. One is at WVU Extension Services, Monroe Street, the other at the Disability Action Center, Benoni Avenue.
