ROSENBERG, Texas – A teacher Suicide attempt in a classroom while the school was in session and later died in a local hospital, said school officials in Texas.

According to school district officials, Jordan Halane, a professor of fine arts at Wessendorff Middle School in Rosenberg, west of Houston, was found unconscious in his classroom on Monday by another staff member.

The director of the school, Sonya Sanzo, said in a letter to the medical staff that the medical staff had reacted immediately. Halane was taken to Oak Bend Medical Center, where he died later.

Lieutenant Justin Crocker of the Rosenberg Police Department said the investigators had determined that his death was a suicide, according to the Houston Chronicle.

The officials would not comment on the exact nature of Halane's death.

The students were put on hold and stayed in their classrooms. The children were not aware of the medical emergency, Sanzo said in his e-mail.

She also stated that Halane's classroom is located in a part of the campus that was not directly accessible to students.

"Unfortunately, we think that the teacher had the intention to harm himself." Write Sanzo in the email. "There were no weapons on campus and the students were never in danger."

Crisis counseling teams were available all day on campus Tuesday, she said.

The college is part of the Lamar Consolidated Independent School District.
