CNN reporter Jim Acosta denied Wednesday the White House's claim that he had become physical with a young White House trainee during a lively exchange earlier in the day with President Trump

Acosta said on CNN 's "Anderson Cooper 360" that he "was trying to hang on to the microphone" when he was approached internally, who attempted to carry his microphone while he was on the phone. he was trying to ask Trump a question at a press point for the White House.

While the trainee was trying to pick up the microphone, Acosta said, "Forgive me, ma'am" and kept trying to ask her question. Acosta 's hand seemed to be rubbing the arm of the internally during the exchange.
During the exchange, the president called Acosta "a rude and terrible person," and said, "CNN should be ashamed to see you working for them."

CNN then came to Acosta's defense, claiming in a statement that Sanders had "lied" in his "fraudulent" explanation by citing an incident "that never happened".

On the evening of Wednesday, Sanders doubled the White House's decision to revoke Acosta's press credentials.
"We are maintaining our decision to revoke this person's hard pass and we will not tolerate the inappropriate behavior clearly documented in this video," she tweeted after criticizing the increasingly critical decision.
