South African journalist Angela Quintal has been released

After "a very long night," the Department of International Relations and South African Cooperation confirmed Thursday that journalist Angela Quintal was released after being arrested by the Tanzanian authorities.

Quintal, who is now working for the US-based Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ), was arrested late Wednesday at his hotel in Dar es Salaam with one of his colleagues on the Committee to Protect Journalists.

"After a very long night spent by the High Commissioner, the two journalists were brought back to their hotel. The High Commissioner [Thami] Mseleku meets them to understand the events of last night, "spokesman Ndivhuwo Mabaya told TimesLIVE.

"He will then engage the Tanzanian authorities.

"I spoke to him personally this morning and to the High Commissioner early this morning," said Mabaya.

Quintal, Africa Program Coordinator at the Committee for the Protection of Journalists, had first sent a message from her Facebook page, stating that she and a colleague of the rep 's representative. Sub-Saharan Africa, Muthoki Mumo, were arrested.
