The sheriff's captain said at least six people were killed Wednesday night when a suspect opened fire in a crowded bar in southern California.
Captain Garo Kuredjian, of the Ventura County Sheriff's Office, said at a press conference Thursday morning that his deputy was also shot and taken to a hospital. He could not provide immediate information on the extent of injuries sustained by the victims.
The sheriff's spokesman said the first shots were fired at around 11:20 pm at the Borderline Bar & Grill in Thousand Oaks, about 40 miles west of Los Angeles. He added that MPs who responded could hear gunshots as soon as they arrived at the scene.
Authorities still treat it as an active shooter scene.
No other information was immediately available.
