Judge Ruth Bader Ginsburg of the Supreme Court was hospitalized for "observation and treatment" after her fall and three-rib fracture, a court spokeswoman said.
Ginsburg, 85, fell in his office at the Supreme Court Wednesday night, according to the court. After "experiencing a night of discomfort", she went to the hospital on Thursday morning.
"The tests showed that she had fractured three ribs on the left and that she had been admitted for observation and treatment," the statement said. "Updates will be provided as soon as they are available."
Ginsburg served in the field for 25 years.
For years, the question of his possible court retreat has sparked speculation and sometimes criticism. Some Democrats believe that Ginsburg should have withdrawn under the Obama regime to ensure that its place in the court would be filled by a liberal judge.
If Ginsburg resigns under the Trump administration, the president will choose another named person, which will likely lean the court farther to the right.
But Ginsburg, the oldest court justice, has always claimed that she had no intention of retiring.
"I will retire when the time is right," Ginsburg told Nina Totenberg of NPR in 2016. "And when is it time when I can not do the job at full speed."
There is a precedent for his long service because Judges Oliver Wendell Holmes Jr. and John Paul Stevens were both 90 when they retired.
Ginsburg is more than a legal titan. She has become an unlikely icon of pop culture, particularly appreciated by young women.
And because of his age and his followers among the Liberals, his health is being watched more closely than any other judge on the ground.
His workout routine, presented in a documentary and then in a book, drew public attention.
