He said that he wanted to avoid age-based discrimination in society – especially on dating sites.

Marjolein van den Brink, a specialist in human rights and gender issues at the Utrecht University School of Law, said age discrimination was a problem, but was different from the sex change issues.
"It is clear that older people are much less likely to get a job than younger people," she said. "But that's just one element, and it's only something that happens to you once you're 40, 45 or 50, it depends a bit on your work.
"While sex is something that follows you from birth to grave, it determines almost everything – not just in the job market, but around the world," she said.

The government "could benefit" from the reduction in age
