A Boeing passenger aircraft crashed during an emergency landing in Guyana.

At least six passengers were injured when the Fly Jamaica plane, which was heading to Toronto, crashed at Cheddi Jagan International Airport on Friday.

It was about 20 minutes since the pilot was in the air when the pilot indicated that he was having problems with his hydraulic system, officials said Guyana at a press conference.

Fly Jamaica said the 118 passengers and eight crew members were safe.

In a statement, he said, "We can confirm that Fly Jamaica flight OJ256, bound for Toronto, returned to Georgetown with a technical problem and suffered an accident at the landing.

"At the present time, we believe that the 118 passengers and eight crew members are safe.

"We provide local support and will post additional information as soon as it is available."

The plane landed about 45 minutes after the departure of Cheddi Jagan.

This happened less than fifteen days after another Boeing plane, operated by Lion Air, crashed into the sea in Indonesia, killing 189 people on board.
