May traveled with Belgian Prime Minister Charles Michel to a memorial of the First World War in Mons, in the south-west of the country.

We do not know if May and Michel's car was hit directly. According to the Belgian media Sudinfo and De Standaard, neither was hurt.

Two policemen on motorbikes were beaten and taken to hospital with minor injuries, Sudinfo reported.

De Standaard and the Belgian newspaper Le Soir both described the accident as an accident. The identity of the driver who crashed into the convoy is unknown.
