Forecasters say the workweek will end in the wind, rain and heavy rain Friday night. Then a colder air explosion settles for the weekend.
"We are going to finish on a very wet note," said Rich Hoffman, News 12 weather forecaster on Long Island.
The showers are expected to start around 3 pm-5pm, with more rain expected in the early evening at around midnight, said Nelson Vaz, Meteorologist at the National Weather Service in Upton.
Watch for wet roads and a chance of heavy rains during the evening rush hour, Hoffman said.
There is also a risk of a storm and an isolated risk of a violent storm.
Around noon, the Long Island MacArthur Airport at Ronkonkoma announced a cloudy sky, a temperature of 51 degrees and winds of 15 mph.
Friday winds are becoming more gusty – the rest until Saturday – with any violent storm causing gusts ranging from 40 to 50 mph, the meteorological service said.
A lightning watch is in effect for Long Island from 18h. Friday at 6 am Saturday, with precipitation of 1.5 to 2 inches expected, locally higher in some places.
There is a gale warning for the waters off both shores of Long Island beginning at 4pm. Friday at 1 o'clock on Saturday. A notice regarding small craft is launched from 1 pm in the West Long Island Strait. Friday at 6 am Saturday.
The dry weather is back on Saturday, but it is cold with this air, which means highs in the first 40 years, feeling colder given the winds, announced the weather service.
The temperature drops to about 30 degrees early in the morning, Sunday, on Veterans Day, which heats up to the mid-40s under sunny skies. The normal for the day at MacArthur is a maximum of 55 and a minimum of 38.
The cold continues at the beginning of the work week, and another period of heavy rains is scheduled for Tuesday, announced the weather service.
