As a "total eclipse": a forest fire smoke envelops the NorCal cities in the dark
The street lights went on and the drivers turned on their headlights while a bewildering darkness hovered over Chico, CA on Friday afternoon.
Earlier in the week, the forecast promised sunshine and temperatures of 70 degrees, but residents remained largely indoors on Friday, their lights being on, while the smoke from a fire forest was choking the air and blocking the sunlight.

"Nous allons fumer pendant la journée et probablement au début de la semaine prochaine en raison des conditions météorologiques", a déclaré Kristine Roselius, porte-parole du District de la gestion de la qualité de l'air de la région de Bay Area. Les prévisionnistes ne voient aucun changement fondamental dans la météo au cours des prochains jours et ont prévenu d'un retour possible du temps de surveillance des incendies dans la région de la Baie ce week-end.
L'agence a qualifié la qualité de l'air dans la région de la baie de "malsaine". Il conseillait aux personnes de limiter leur temps à l'extérieur, de garder les fenêtres fermées et de remettre les climatiseurs en circulation.
Les vents du nord-nord-ouest continueront à chasser la fumée du feu de camp vers la baie pendant plusieurs jours, ont annoncé des responsables. L'air sera plus fumé dans les North Bay et East Bay et à San Francisco, a annoncé Roselius.
