Two people were shot dead by police Friday night in Utah: one in Ogden and another in Salt Lake City.
Ogden Police stated that they had been called to Walmart at 1959 Wall Ave. on a report from a man – described only as white and in the late thirties – acting "violently", according to a press release. An officer stopped the man in his vehicle on the parking lot.
As the officer spoke to the man, he sped at full speed and crashed, then tried to run away. The police chased him and the man allegedly "turned himself aggressively towards the police armed with a weapon". Police attempted to use less than deadly force on the man, but two policemen shot him while it failed, the statement said.
The Weber County Attorney's Office will investigate this shooting.
The shootings in Salt Lake City took place around 8 pm near 800 North Sir Patrick Drive., Sgt. Brandon Shearer said.
Shearer said Friday night that he did not know why the police were present in the area before shooting the person, and that he did not disclose any information to identify the person killed, including their sex, age and race.
West Valley City police are investigating the shooting, according to the critical incident protocol involving a valley officer who is forcing an outside agency to investigate police shootings.
