Thor & Rocket Infinity War Art Reveals Battle of Midgard's Serpent

Avengers: Infinity War The conceptual art reveals Thor and Rocket in a battle against what could be a hydra – or, more likely, is the equivalent of the Midgard snake of the MCU. This is a major clue that the themes of Ragnarok, or Twilight of the Gods, have continued beyond the events of Taika Waititi Thor: Ragnarok movie.

Promotion for Avengers: Infinity War debuted in February 2017, when Marvel Studios released a video titled "Day One" that included a tantalizing artistic concept of the film's heroes. A particularly exciting scene showed Thor and Rocket side by side, teasing a promising team between the god of thunder and one of the Guardians of the galaxy. It also triggered theories that Thor would win a new weapon, with most fans having (wrongly) first guessed that it would be Jarnbjorn, an enchanter. And now, more information has been revealed about this particular conceptual art.

The art of the Avengers: war in the infinite includes a double page containing the same picture – but reveals that, until now, Marvel has only published a part of it. The full picture saw Thor and Rocket fighting against a serpentine creature similar to a Hydra in Greek mythology. However, given the Nordic themes of the Thor franchise, it is more like the MCU version of the Midgard Snake.

In Norse mythology, the Midgard Serpent – also called Jormungand – is intimately related to the legend of Ragnarok. It is envisioned as a snake so large that it surrounds the globe and, when it comes out of the abyss, it will be one of the climatic events that will lead to the end of everything. In addition, the creature's nemesis is Thor. Naturally, it's a myth the Thor the comics have enjoyed exploiting it several times.

However, no context is provided for this image, but it is probably related to another Thor's Stormbreaker quest. Marvel still had the intention of sending Thor on a parallel quest to acquire Stormbreaker, but the nature of the mission seems to have changed significantly. In some versions, Thor has embarked on a quest to find Stormbreaker rather than forging it; this is probably the case here, with the god of thunder recovering the weapon and fighter Jormungand in order to escape Nidavellir. The basic problem, however, seems to have been that it had just felt disconnected from the main story.

As Stephen McFeely puts it in The art of the Avengers: war in the infinite"[This scene must] provide a test for Thor, but it also shows what Thanos did."Obviously, the Midgard Serpent simply could not be related to Thanos, thus making the plot unrelated to the main narrative." Instead, Marvel chose to choose a version of the scenario in which the Dwarves had suffered At the hands of Thanos Interestingly, Even when Marvel decided on this point, the studio still did not know how to make Nidavellir work: the art book presents a wide range of different designs for the dwarf planet , proving that Marvel has experimented with many different ideas.
