Earlier this fall, Sir Patrick Stewart spoke at the annual Star Trek conference to announce that he was returning to resume his role as Captain Jean-Luc Picard. A few weeks later, the iconic actor shared a photo next to Several writers of the group gathered to take part in a first writers' room for Picard's picoric show.
Chabon recently spoke with Deadline on the opportunity to write alongside a person like Stewart, calling the situation "fantastic".
"This project is underway and the photo was taken with Patrick," said Chabon. "He spent two weeks in the room, it was fantastic, it was sort of in the preliminary phase.
The novelist turned scriptwriter then explained the exact role played by Stewart in the writing process. According to Chabon, Stewart was introduced for a few weeks to interact with the editors to generate ideas.

"He is incredibly kind and funny, charming and surprisingly humble and modest, a great collaborator and I can not say enough about the incredible and unexpected benefits of the process."
Suffice to say that Chabon enjoys working with Stewart. Chabon called Stewart "darling" and congratulated the actor for his ability to contribute to the writer's piece.
"He asks a lot of questions about you and about your life, he's a lover, he's also very smart," Chabon said. "Over the years, I have had the chance to meet actors who play intelligent characters and it can sometimes be a little disappointing to meet the actor, to discover that they are not as bright as the character that they describe.
