Not a single resident of Paradise, California, can be seen anywhere in town after most of them have fled the northern California community, which could be lost forever. Most buildings in the city are in ruins. Whole neighborhoods are leveled. The business district is destroyed.
In a single day, the town at the foot of Sierra Nevada, which has 27,000 inhabitants, is largely incinerated by flames that move so quickly that firefighters could do nothing. Only one day after the start of the "campfire", the fire had grown to Friday to reach 140 km2 and destroyed more than 6,700 buildings, almost all of them houses – making it fire most destructive forest in California since the beginning of record keeping.
According to the authorities, at least nine people were killed by "camp fire", which was contained at 5% Saturday morning.
It's one of three big flames that fire fighters are fighting across the state.
In Southern California, the "Woolsey Fire", of an area of 35,000 acres, was contained at 0% early Saturday. He forced more than 200,000 evacuations. The "hill fire" stood at 6,000 acres.
